Centuries ago, at the time of the Druids the time between October 31 and November 2 were considered pagan high holy days. Samhain was a special holiday time. This was the place where the distant roots began for our modern day Halloween. This was the fortune of being read, the communication should be with the spirits of ancestors and others, and a time of chaos and festivals. The Druid priests believed that time stopped and there was no point to this day. Chaos and celebrations reigned. The adults would dress up although not in the Halloween costumes that we have today. During the celebration pagan men dressed as women and women dressed as men.
The children who wander from house to house in hopes of food or fruit to be given to them. Cheats can be played on most city dwellers. Cattle and horses can be moved to other areas of the city. Fences, gates, and even the gates were demolished or taken to be discarded at the roadside or in trenches. The days became known by the Christian priests in later years and 31 October became Halloween, 1 November became All Saints Day and November 2nd became All Souls Day.
There was a movement to eliminate the timing Halloween and parties for hundreds of years because some did not like the fact of his connection with the Druids. The people enjoyed the festival and offers Halloween fun and refused to give up their Halloween fun. Today there is still some controversy about Halloween, but none can deny that this is a fun and holiday enjoyable for all, especially children who come to dress in costumes and collecting candy to eat.
Over the years, this time of year became at the time that young men take to the streets and race to many of the houses for food and drink. Children can dress in party clothes and go from house to house in search of sweets and no tricks to play if the homeowner is there.
